Ethical and Sustainable Practices

For Now and For the Future

Here at Gecko Jewellery, making sure that our jewellery is ethically and sustainably sourced and produced has always been important to us. Here's more information on how we are continuing to work on practices across the business.

We are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council

All of the materials used in our jewellery are ethically and responsibly sourced

The RJC is the global membership and standards body for responsible jewellery throughout the entire supply chain – from mine to retail.

Their ‘Code of Practice’ references key development frameworks, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ILO Principles and UN Global Compact and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We are selective with our suppliers

We only use suppliers who align with our ethical practices and sustainability goals.

Part of our sourcing methods are not just about the product, but what the suppliers are doing to sustain the planet.

For example, gifting Gecko with re-planted trees for the future.

Made to last

All of our jewellery is made to a high quality, going through a thorough QC process to ensure it will last. Our 9ct gold pieces especially are made to be passed down for generations to come.

Sustainable packaging

As well as sourcing ethical jewellery we are working on sustainable packaging for pouches and boxes. The packaging will be made from 100% plastic bottles recovered from the ocean, therefore helping the eco system.

Our packaging and POS are also made to last and not be frequently thrown away, meaning that there is less waste.

We use recycled silver

Our recycled silver comes from a fully audited CoC (Chain of Custody) supplier. This means they can provide evidence and certificates to prove that the silver has come from fully recycled sources.

We are currently working on making more of our collections from recycled silver.

We use recycled leather

Our Fred Bennett Reborn bracelets are made from scraps of leather and recycled in a very similar process to how paper is recycled.

Again, this is something we are currently working on expanding.

We donate to charity

We create collections where percentages of all sales are donated to UK charities. These currently include The British Beekeepers Association, Mind, and Barnardos. In 2021 alone, we donated £11,500 overall.

We carbon balance our printed catalogues

In total during 2021, we offset 6.5 tonnes of emissions from our main catalogues alone through planting trees and buying land to be preserved! We will continue to do this going forwards.

Continue to join us during our journey to consistently improve and work towards a better future.
