Conflict Minerals Policy Statement

As a leading UK supplier of finished gold jewellery to worldwide markets Gecko Trading Ltd is committed to the ending of funding of armed conflicts from ores containing Gold, Tin, Tantalum and Tungsten (“Conflict Minerals”) mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and immediately surrounding states in Africa (“Conflict Region”).

We recognise the “Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform” initiatives and impending legislation within the EU. We support these requirements to further the humanitarian goal of ending violent conflict in the region which has been partially funded by the exploitation and trade of these conflict minerals.

OUR COMMITMENT:

  1. Support the aims and objectives of the U.S. Legislation on the supply of “conflict minerals”.
  2. Do not knowingly procure specified metals that originate from facilities in the “conflict region” that are not certified as conflict free.
  3. Ensure compliance with these requirements ourselves, and ask our suppliers to undertake reasonable due diligence with their supply chains to assure that the specified metals are being sourced only from:
    • Mines and smelters outside the “conflict region” or
    • Mines and smelters which have been certified by an independent third party as “conflict free” if sourced within the “conflict region”.

This due diligence includes having our suppliers provide written evidence documenting that the raw materials used in any components or products supplied to Gecko Trading Ltd meet these requirements. The aim is to ensure that only “conflict free” materials and components are used in all our products.

If we discover the use of these minerals produced in facilities that are considered to be “non conflict free”, in any materials, parts, or components we procure we will take appropriate actions to transition the affected products to be conflict mineral free.

Gecko Trading Ltd are members and support the efforts of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), an international, not-for-profit organisation established to reinforce consumer confidence in the jewellery industry by advancing responsible business practices throughout the diamond, gold and platinum group metals jewellery supply chain. Membership in the RJC began in 2014 and our certification against the RJC Code of Practices was achieved in 2018.
